Canada is a cold country. People are used to persevering against nature. They will put up with high taxes more readily than the people of most countries.

I'm not sure cold has anything to do with it. Here in freezing Alaska folks feel they have a God-given right to pay zero taxes.

IMO Canadians put up with high taxes because they are the descendants of folks who are less rebellious and more accepting of state authority than Americans. Understand, this is not a criticism of Canadians. My ancestors are from both sides of the border, and quite intertwined with the history of both nations.
