It is truly disconcerting when radical Muslims start bombing in Bali, or fighting in the Phillippines. It is true, we want to take care of the main petri dish, as it were, so that incidents of infection decline.......

These are not infections that spread from some central petri dish. These are manifestations of conflicts with their own extended histories, many of which go back well before the emergence of Islamic radicalism in the Middle East. The people who are fighting in these places cooperate with Islamic radicals from the Middle East because of ideological affinity and expediency, but they were not created by Middle Eastern Islamic radicalism, and they will not vanish if the Islamic radicals in the Middle East are defeated.
