<constituencies that are not defined by geography,> That is why most large population (modern) systems use a mix of FPTP and PR. That is, single-seat-districts obviously minimizes the voting districts, considering that parliaments should have less that maybe 200-400 seats. Some use two votes, one for the local FPTP system and another one for the PR system which does not have the non-representation problem of FPTP. Others demand that one should decide to vote for "person" or for "party". Populations less than maybe 10-30 millions can easily use multi-member-districts to achieve both Local Representation and Proportional Representation. Ilmarinen Btw, both some US-NPR and CBC stuff is aired here too, the magic of "no silly copyrights" due to commercials. (just like BBC)
