richard,

It really is a question of learning how to read the statistics.

For example, in the Nesbitt Burns analysis, we find that the two largest percentage gainers in the quarter-to-quarter comparisons were

1. Building materials up 19.6% and
2. Gasoline sales up 24.8%

While both of these ostensibly contribute to GDP, and the Bush propaganda machine touts GDP growth as a positive for the economy, the truth is completely the opposite.

For, in fact, increasing inflation in building materials is making housing less affordable, and the increased price of gasoline at the pump acts as a tax on the economy and on discretionary spending by the consumer.

So what we have here is a basic shell game Catch-22 situation where "black is white", "up is down" and economic slavery is miscast as prosperity.

I'm not buying all this "good news" without digging into the actual implications of what the Bushies are trying to sell. They are running a con game. And you are one of the designated chumps.
