The other thing that is inconsistent is this fact:

The economy has created 286,000 jobs since August, (from the same article).

With weekly newly laid offs running in excess of 300,000 and fewer than 300,000 new jobs in the last 12 weeks, the figures on GDP aren't telling us anything useful.

Most of the gains in GDP are due to military spending, jacked up energy costs and anemic retail growth founded on debt expansion. Signs of a sick economy.

Additionally, looked at from the perspective of a forex trader, with the dollar cratering in the most recent quarter, the actual gains are nil in GDP vis a vis a basket of world currencies!
