Arnold won on macho appeal vs. a "wimpy" Davis. Dean is also wimpy, though he doesn't have a wimpy mouth and is a much stronger speaker than Davis.

Ironically Davis was a Bronze Star winner and Arnold was a pretender, but image being almost everything, there was no getting around the Terminator factor, imaginary or not.

I admit, Dean is appealing to many on the far left without being specific. He is called a straight-shooter but often shoots from the hip, changes positions, gaffes and avoids detailed plans. Whatever, they support him.

My position is that no matter what, Dean cannot overcome his macho deficiency. That's what it takes to beat Bush in the end, the macho image. Dukakis found that out the hard way though he beat Bush Sr. on the issues.

Even many women vote for the taller, more charismatic manly man in the final analysis. Arnold got a lot of female voters even with his groping stories. Ironic but true. Mondale and Ferraro for instance got smeared by macho image man Reagan. Dems thought nice sentitive Mondale and female Ferraro would appeal to women. It didn't work.
