Bush II has violated every one of Bush I's rules for engagement in Iraq.

1. Broad coalition and shared responsibility with the UN.

2. Use overwhelming force.

3. Let the exit strategy dictate the operation and not the other way around.

4. Avoid guerilla war in the cities.

5. Keep Saddam contained.

A strategy that evidently was working very well, but that needed fine tuning on the weapons inspector front and the human rights front. But did not need a full scale invasion.

Old Baghdad Bob was a joke, no doubt. But one thing he said that has turned out to be right is that the people of Iraq did not greet the soldiers with flowers and music. They have remained skeptical in the main.

All available polls now indicate that Iraqis want the US to leave soon, but not too soon. Even the Iraqis can see that since the power structure in Iraq has been toppled, that without the stability of an occupier like the US, or an Iraqi security force and army, that all hell would break lose resulting in some kind of civil war between the power factions.

I can't believe that the current Bush administration did not acknowledge the logic of the previous Bush administration.
