Just to cheer anyone up who thinks Armageddon is around the corner, with or without the Bush Terror Doctrine ... An author named Robt Wright was just interviewed on Think Tank on his book "Nonzero", which posits that we're on an inevitable course towards a more civilized world, in spite of occasional evidence to the contrary. The question of whether there is an inevitability of this that is evidence of a higher power is something he toys with. But more importantly it's the "directionality of evolution" that is encouranging. I.e., if things are as bad as they appear, are we doomed to wink out w/in 20 years in a global biowarfare nightmare brought about by (fill in the blank -- Bush leaguer lab mistakes or Islamist action), or will we somehow achieve a level of defensive organization that will avoid that scenario? The book hasn't arrived yet, I'd love to have anyone's comments if they've read it.
