Kerry needs to finish second to Gephardt in Iowa. If Dean wins in Iowa he coasts in NH. If Kerry finishes further than seven or eight points behind in NH, he will probably be finished. If Kerry runs negative ads targeting Dean, that will only strengthen Dean and hurt Kerry. 53 days to Iowa and 61 days to NH.
