Clark Leads dean in NBC/WSJ Poll:

NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll conducted by the polling organizations of Peter Hart (D) and Robert Teeter (R). Nov. 8-10, 2003. Asked of Democrats, and non-Democrats who said they would vote in a Democratic presidential primary.

"Let me mention some people who might seek the Democratic nomination for president in 2004. If the next Democratic primary for president were being held today, for which one of the following candidates would you vote: [see below]?" If "Not sure," ask: "Well, which way do you lean?"

11/03 9/03
% %
Wesley Clark 17 16
Howard Dean 15 17
Richard Gephardt 12 8
John Kerry 11 11

* Point being, if you want to select one poll you can skew the reality a bit. The reality is Dean may have a slight lead nationally but he is also the best known because he has gotten the most press coverage. His lead is often within the margin of error of non-existent like the above poll. One little stumbled and 5% could vanish, plus the vast plorality of Dems are still undecided. Many of those are undecided because they are waiting to see which more centrist candidate breaks out of the pack. Has most of the zealous anti-war voters but beyond that it's hard to see him exciting the moderates. Dean is trying hard to talk and talk, but if you walk like a duck and look like a duck it's hard not to remain being seen as a duck. Talk is cheap.

PS: Kerry, Clark, Gephardt and Lieberman have all led national polls and could again. it's still up for grabs.
