Wiring defect most likely cause for fire at Moscow university - investigators Interfax. Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, 5:14 PM Moscow Time MOSCOW. Nov 28 - Investigators still believe that the Monday fire at a dormitory of the Peoples' Friendship University in Moscow was likely caused by a defect in the building's electrical wiring. The investigation is still being conducted, but experts are getting more and more evidence confirming the assumption that the tragedy occurred due to defects in the wiring or its overload, which could have been caused by "faults in the operation of electric appliances," Russian First Deputy Interior Minister Col. Gen. Rashid Nurgaliyev told Interfax on Friday. The fire killed 37 people, mainly foreign students, and 168 have been hospitalized
