There was no proof. The only proof that would reasonably suffice could only be gathered by rigorous personal inspection, and we all know that Saddam repeatedly played games during those inspections. By the time 911 hit us, Bush rightly said "enough," nad entered Iraq to get the proof that Saddam should have given freely. Had Saddam allowed unfettered inspections early on, there never would have been any cause for us to doubt the destruction of his WMD. But he did not allow those inspections. Even when it came to the very last, goofy Blix was talking about "progress" being made regarding the cooperation of the Iraqis. Bush rightly said 'forget it,' and entered Iraq himself to get the proof. He knew he would never get Saddam to shoot straight.

And your claim that Bush "would have" done such and such is just pure leftist speculation.
