I received "A"s in economic honors program. Dollar was worth 300 yen, 4 marks, etc. American autoworkers, teachers, nurses, bus drivers were rich. U S made cars for the world. Middle class Americans traveled and easily lived better than the locals. They stayed at, ate at the most expensive places. U S was biggest creditor. Now, U S is biggest debtor. We are losing our independence. Creditors have power. We are dependent on imported oil. Foreigners own U S bonds.
