Looks like US leaders were warned about post war chaos in Iraq but did not plan for it. A classic case of bureaucratic bungling by the State Department

I nonconcur. The facts that I've seen presented indicate that the neocons in the Department of Death were able to successfully engineer a secondary role for State in the run-up to war and its immediate aftermath. Cheney and Rumsfeld made successful end runs around State, the CIA and even the military brass. Their paranoia, megalomania and arrogance set them on a course to fabricate the evidence for war, as well as the anticipated results.

Are you aware of the three succeeding hierarchies for the rebuilding team? At first, Jay Garner's regime was strictly controlled by DoD. He reported directly to Rumsfeld, as does the CPA's Bremer. With the chaos that Garner could not control, Bremer was introduced, but with direct control still in the hands of Rumsfeld and Cheney.

There has been something of a palace coup that has occurred only within the past couple of weeks with a seasoned foreign affairs man from State being asked to intervene in Iraq. And the number of State Department 'foreign hands' involved in the CPAs operation has doubled to about 110 individuals within the past few weeks. The neocons are losing control of the situation, basically because they have proven to be utter failures at addressing reality in Iraq.

Who was it who said that "America will always get to the right answer, after having exhausted every other possibility"?
