Gates' M.O. up to this point has not had him making blatantly generous deals for grounbreaking new software. One way to look at it is that he's probably paid Apple only a fraction of what he thinks the product is worth, betting either that he'll be able to step in at some point and take over or that Apple will -- for one reason or another -- drop development and give the business to Bill by default.
I agree that anything below 20 on this stock is a buying opportunity given *ALL* the recent news (Gates investment(s), new board, OS8 sales, etc.). Regardless of all the backward-thinking, naysaying droids in here who seem to want to wait around and see how all this news pans out for Apple (convinced as they are that it'll turn out to be a bad news), I'm taking the news for what it is, a HUGE development not only for Apple but for the entire computer industry.
Of course, I don't short stocks, so I'll be around holding AAPL at least past the turn of the century, good or bad.
Good luck to all.
