And there certainly are PLENTY of people in Iraq who want the US to leave

According to John Burns of the New York Times (did you see his Charlie Rose interview?), there are plenty of Iraqis who will say with bravado, "sure, America leave now!", but when you talk to them a little more, and ask "do you really want America to pull out its troops right away?" the answer turns into, "no, no, if they leave now there will be a civil war". Few except the Ba'athists and their allied Jihadists, and some Sunni militias who are feeling their oats, would really like to see an American pullout. Because nobody but the Ba'athists wants the Ba'athists back.
