USA wants long term military bases in Iraq! This is news? Take a look at a map of the Persian Gulf detailing where 2/3 of the worlds oil reserves sit. This area is the jugular vein of the global economy. If it is not protected adequately the Islamo fascists will have little trouble making a crippling blow to against the global economy. Also success in Iraq is highly dependent on private investors putting billions of dollars into Iraq to rebuild the economy. Unless some substantial form of security is assured by the USA the investment wont occur and the economy wont grow.
