I don't see any problem posting opinions as long as you are willing to have them subjected to scrutiny. I think there is a big difference between "I believe the French did xyz because..." as opposed to "The French would never do abc given the chance...."

The first may give me a point of view on a development that I hadn't considered. The latter means you think someone will act badly given the chance.

I find it more moderate and reasonable to evaluate an existing track record, especially in the current emotionally charged climate on all sides.

All that said, I am very glad to have you on this thread offering a moderate point of view that is more to the right than the rest of us. Very few SI political posters have been willing to put aside the sniper attacks long enough to have a good debate.

What do you think about the senior Iraqi cleric's objection to the US political plans, and the attacks on US forces from some elements of the new Iraqi police? Seems to me that the biggest danger for the US is now in Iraq itself rather than the who is an ally or enemy abroad issue.

Since the US plan for transition is founded on stable political and security structures, I don't see what the CPA can do. Pretty much painted into a corner now.
