I suspect whoever the dem candidate is amasses a campaign fund close to Bush's.

The anti-Bush sentiment in the U.S. is stronger than that against any President I've ever seen in an election campaign. Nixon got a free ride in 1972. The public was tired and frustrated with the Viet Nam debacle, but Nixon was able to lie about a peace scheme and cheat the public.
And the public ignored the Watergate break-in.

I don't think we are as naive, or as exhausted as a peace movement this time around. And the threat to our democracy seems exponentially more frightening with Bush than it was with Nixon.
