I'm not a sports enthusiast. I know many people are, and they can be fanatics. But I question whether they will allow availability of sports programming on SIRI, so they can LISTEN to games they'd rather be watching, drive the purchase of a radio & subscription. Obviously, some will.
The cost of providing the programming (i.e., acquisition cost plus the lost opportunity to provide alternative programming with the available bandwidth), I believe, exceeds the subscriber revenues that can be obtained by carrying this programming. Yet, they seem to be determined to acquire even more such programming. Same thing with Pamela Anderson and the $2,000,000 giveaway. People are not going to subscribe to Sirius to be able to participate in the $2,000,000 giveaway OR to have Pam wash their car.
The bottom line is that SIRI MUST HAVE OEM DEALS. Even though XM is taking less net revenue on GM cars, it is the GM OEM deal that is driving the entire industry. Honda is really stepping up to the plate, as well. Yet, Clayton still refuses to tell us how many DMX factory installs we can expect in the coming year. |
