Again, Wi-MAX implies only a set of standard tests for
one or more versions of 802.16 (currently fixed) wireless..
all of which operate above 5 ghz.

Currently its major applications will consist of
Interconnecting those Wireless , or Wired (does not matter
which) Hotspots .

Also , underserved areas will certainly use Wi-MAX with
SECTORED Antennas (not omni-directional) to act as a
replacement for xDSL service, and/or Cable Modem service.

System On a Chip circuits are only now being developed,
and surely THESE EARLY MODELS will NOT be suitable for a PCS phone...
I don't know of any FOOL who says otherwise.

Your anti-5ghz rhetoric, omni-directional antennae, and
food containers serve no use, other than to make you look silly and unwilling to learn.... however I appreciate
the fact that you have moved away somewhat from that foolishness.

re:

then I can only study existing hostpot deployments to predict commercial success.

a really poor way to judge the operation of 16a systems
which are designed for very difficult outdoor applications
and environments, IMHO.

There has been FAR too much wi-FI HYPE, in publications,
by authors who are without a clue, and apparently want
to sell their papers.

AGAIN , WITHOUT THE BS .... Wi-FI is MERELY a REPLACEMENT for 10Base T (using 802.11b) and 100 Base T (using 802.11a or g) WIRED LANS.

Don't overthink throughput.
I NEVER have .
I do not subscribe to the overstated hype and supposed
72 megabit/second BS for instance.

Name a reason to buy a 54mb/sec connection to a laptop that doesn't involve trojan viruses and a Microsoft operating system.

Don't know what you are getting at ?

Why would I buy into a Network connection that EXPOSES
me to viruses ?? BTW IT MAKES NO MATTER .... WIRED or WIRELESS. so what is the point ?

Help me find a WOFDM implementation that can fit into a cellphone, use omnidirectional antennas even indoors, and can be deployed as a direct replacement for PCS CDMA without new cellsites.

We already covered that .... there are NO chips
small enough for cellphone applications in the near future

again ... WHY ON EARTH ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT OMNI ANTENNAS again ?? Decent Cell sites USE SECTORED Antennae,
and may soon use STEERABLE antennae.

Mobile devices, BTW, WHEN THE DO SHOW UP .... will be
the ONLY ONES to use OMNI Antennae , IMO.
