Tigard, OR – November 13, 2003 – VeriLAN, Inc., an Oregon based wireless service provider, has received the first shipments of Wi-LAN, Inc. (TSX: WIN) LIBRA 5800 products to the USA. The LIBRA 5800 uses Wi-LAN’s patented W-OFDM (Wide-Band Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) technology to achieve high-capacity Non Line Of Sight (NLOS) network performance for Wireless MAN networks.

“ I believe VeriLAN is the first company in the US to install a commercial deployment of the Wi-LAN LIBRA multi-point wireless broadband equipment,” said Raj Savara, Executive Vice President of VeriLAN, Inc. “LIBRA wireless service represents a superior alternative for the last mile, with significantly higher data transmission rates and broader customer coverage..”
LIBRA has the capabilities required to deploy a telecom quality network in a metropolitan city, where NLOS, security, and QOS is a requirement. LIBRA’s NLOS capability significantly increases fixed wireless access subscriber coverage. LIBRA also offers tiered service management through Committed Informat
ion Rate / Maximum Burst Rate (CIR/MBR).

VeriLAN’s deployment of LIBRA features multi-layered security, making this solution one of the most secure networks available in the market today. Physical layer security is built in through Wi-LAN’s patented W-OFDM technology and user-configurable center frequencies. Security at the MAC layer features a proprietary Radio Frequency (RF) protocol, individual unit identification codes and VLAN tagging. The network layer features IP address filtering, and network management security is provided through protected SNMP, FTP, ping or TELNET access and a password-protected user menu.
