Extension of VoIP to anywhere - note VoIP is coming on big and strong just now. Even the RBOCs are jumping in to try to head off a huge loss of telephone business to the Internet.

I don't see VOIP as a power app for a data-only network

What do you mean "data only"? The Internet is rapidly going to be routing voice and real-time face-to-face video over that "data only" network.
