Why hasn't Rumsfeld the Incompetent been fired? The lack of security in Iraq not only creates danger for all involved but it also creates a massive financial burden for the US taxpayer.

In addition, countries that may have brought in troops and aid continue to stay away or will soon be pulling out. Aid agencies that went in initially now have skeletal crews if any at all.

"President Bush resolved the issue on April 17. In a memo to USAID, he invoked national defense to
indemnify the contractor for damages from unexploded ordnance, land or sea mines or similar
explosive devices and chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear weapons and materials. The U.S.
government -- and by extension, its taxpayers -- would pay any such damages.

That same day, USAID named Bechtel as its contractor.

Beans says USAID had chosen Bechtel a few days earlier but couldn't grant the contract while the
insurance issue was still pending."

I'll stick to my contention that Iraq is an enormous money-laundering machine. It sucks in our taxpayer dollars, rinses it a bit with 'humanitarian-terrorism' detergent and spits it back no worse for wear to Republican-friendly corporations.
