good morning oral..

We should rally like a mofo today. Strange new world we live in.

i am convinced more and more that the move in gold is a tandem move to the euro (in other words, as goes the euro, so goes gold)....there are also those who's opinion is that the dollar was very overvalued for a considerable time (the so called "strong dollar policy" under rubin) ....the fact is there a modest exchange benefit for US companies with the weaker dollar, but not enough to make a big dent in the overall economy..(i think that is why you see little reaction in the markets to the movement of gold or the euro)....otoh, the weaker dollar v. euro could very well impact their markets if they want to remain competitive, certainly has to effect margins if they are trying to hold the line on price increases to offset the exchange rate.

bottom line is i don't think we should be looking at the POG or the declining dollar (which has been telegraphed for months and months and continues to be) as primary indicators of where business in the US economy is headed.
