Brooks Automation's OneFab(TM) Automated Material Handling System Selected by North American 300mm Fab
Monday December 1, 9:04 am ET

CHELMSFORD, Mass., Dec. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Brooks Automation, Inc. (Nasdaq: BRKS - News), which delivers total automation for semiconductor manufacturing, today announced that it has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract by a North American semiconductor manufacturer to provide factory automation products and services for a 300mm semiconductor fabrication (fab) facility. The customer selected Brooks' OneFab(TM) AMHS (automated material handling system). The OneFab solution includes the AeroLoader IV overhead hoist transport system, UTS (under-track storage), UTS Carousel (under-track storage Carousel) and a unique automation logistics software suite consisting of the material control system and real time dispatching applications.

Robert J. Therrien, chairman and chief executive officer of Brooks Automation, said, "We are pleased that Brooks' AMHS was chosen as the factory automation system for this important 300mm production fab. This selection is a key milestone for Brooks as it strengthens our partnership with one of the world's leading semiconductor manufacturers and gives us an important new 300mm AMHS customer. The OneFab AMHS is our fourth generation system, and it benefits from multiple cycles of learning gained from earlier systems. As a result of this deep experience base and our understanding of 300mm automation requirements, we were able to combine advanced material handling technology, ranging from wireless overhead hoist vehicles to zero footprint storage, with Brooks' powerful software such as the Real Time Dispatcher (RTD), in order to fully automate the process of delivering the right material to the right tool at the right time. Real-time dispatching and factory scheduling give the factory the power to make quick decisions based on real-time data from the Manufacturing Execution System and other automation systems. RTD is the dispatching application of choice for 8 out of the top 10 semiconductor manufacturers, and is used in nearly every 300mm production fab in the world. With less hardware than traditional automation systems and tight integration with advanced software, the OneFab AMHS enables semiconductor manufacturers to fully automate their fabs rather than merely mechanizing them, while realizing a lower cost of ownership than other available systems."
