These Berkeley researchers estimate how much information is stored every year on various media:

In their executive summary they point out that this is the equivalent of a half million new libraries the size of the LOC. E-mail alone generates 400,000 TB.

The good news for storage fans is that the amount of info stored on magnetic media is the largest share and largest grower (by far) followed by paper and optical media. Only film storage is flat to down.

Very interesting documents for the storage investor.
