RE: retail sales

It will be very interesting to see how these retail sales figures evolve over the holidays. I think even the most rabid stock market bulls will be hard-pressed to spin poor numbers. Not to mention how to reconcile poor retail sales against the backdrop of the purported "strong recovery."

It seems like a lot of people don't see problems until at least 2005, presumably because with 2004 being an election year, everything is "assured" to go smoothly. A fairly flimsy assumption, IMHO, but apparently one that a vast majority of investors is comfortable with.
