Quote 12 Aug: Up HK$.02; HK$1.68 (US$.2168) The HK$1.80 level seems to provide significant resistance to an upward move in the stock. If memory serves, HK$1.80 is the high for 1997(will research that point). At the least, heavy selling seems to occur at or near that price level. Claude, we haven't heard from Ken lately. Wonder if he is still on board?
Meanwhile, we still await the 1997 six month (Jan-Jun) earnings results, as well as the SW word from Mr. Lucas's mountain- both matters presumably to be settled August end. There has been, by all accounts, a notable slow-down in Star Wars toy product sales now that the film trilogy has cycled through the movie theatres. Mattel's "Hercules" has apparently been a bust; sales of Hasbro- Kenner's Jurassic Park toys disappointing. Ditto latest generation Power Rangers and the laughable "Batman and Robin" product now showing up on the clearance shelves.
The action figure market, in my view, appears tired and stale- just the right environment for something fresh and different to capture the imaginations of kids seemingly jaded by demonic aliens, Space Rangers, repainted Batman figures, and repackaged dinosaur hunters.
Come September the fab four Turtles plus One(girl Turtle) debut with fanfare on the Fox Kids' Network in a live action show coninciding with an entirely new Playmates Toys' TMNT line now shipping. Demonstrably, kids love turtles and Turtles. Will this new TV show and feature film to follow (Turtles IV: 1997 Thanks- giving) again capture the imaginations of legion kids not old enough to have ridden the first wave in 1988-1991? |
