Andrew,
Hi!!

Yes, I agree...But, I find the dilemma is in KEEPING what has been a successful relationship...

Example: DELL manager...Very successful...Loooooooong time employee (ground roots)...Job description: "be the bud on the tree" bringing information of what DELL can do for your business (cost cuttings, upgrades, and all the whys??? answered) if you decide to go with or continue the DELL relationship...And, one could easily argue that DELL has become the most successful corporation for cost cutting and creating efficiency...Afterall, this efficiency is WHAT REALLY IS FOR SALE when DELL is called to "make the deal"...so, for obvious reasons this "job" is highly valued by DELL and the information this individual could bring to a corporation is priceless...

Problem: This individual becomes a target! The large corporations that he deals with are constantly enticing him to leave for greener pastures...The upfront money and future is a magical mystery tour IF he chooses to leave the "golden handcuffs of DELL"...
Gotta keep him...He pulls in DELL's future each day...

Now, the question becomes...How? I have not yet read of a means to do such...

Best, Kemble
