Doesn't look good for Kerry. I am thinking more and more that Al Gore makes perfect sense. I don't know why Kerry has not caught on because he is a terrific candidate but I'll let the historians try to figure that out.

Barring a huge comeback though he looks like an also-ran. Clark shows some promise but we won't know for sure until february. If he can't dominate in the south then he's a VP candidate. That would mean Dean could peak out at about 30% of the vote through the primaries, maybe even a little better.

What that does is swing the door wide open for Gore to get endorsed by all the also-rans plus the DLC, DNC and most Super Delegates. If Deanies start to rebel then dean will be the Veep. If not then probably Clark.

This is all a little troubling because Kerry-Clark was the strongest ticket, but then again, if he cannot do well in New Hampshire there's something wrong. I know one thing, if anyone ever deserved the White House it's Al Gore. That would be quite a race, and all bad memries about Al would be a distant memory. Now he's actually a fresh face again. He's also the only one in the would who would be an instant slam-dunk nominee even if he comes in late and Dean has a third of the votes at that point. I see no sign whatsoever that mainstream Democrats are willing to trust the nomination to Dean. That said, they are very impressed with what he's able to do against someone as strong as Kerry.
