One of the difficulties the environmental lobby has is that we are generally gaining in longevity and overall health, which suggests that most pollution is under control

Could those gains in "longevity and overall health" have anything to do with improved healthcare, especially re better medicines over the past couple of decades starting with the invention and use of penicillin?

Pollution is not the only thing that is harmful to health, you know...
