Sam,

Look up 96 annual report, page 28, line "Net cash used
in operating activities". In most companies - e.g.
HLIT 96 annual, page 27, this line is called "Net cash provided
by (or used) in operating activities". For most companies it
is usually a large positive amount.

As a rule of thumb, I like when
(operating cash flow - investing cash flow) > 0
This usually means that the company does not have to rely on
financing cash flow to increase its cash.

That was the reason I was surprised with RGFX -
the operating cash flow was negative. On the other hand
RGFX was a private company before 96, so these numbers
should be taken with a spoonful of salt. But
the March quarter report confirms that the same
situation continues.

Let me know if you make sense of this. I might
be simplifying or misinterpreting things. I have
to refresh my memory regarding accounting tricks. :-(
