LONDON (AFP) - A British father is auctioning one of his kidneys over the Internet to fund pioneering treatment he hopes will allow his disabled six-year-old daughter to walk.

Peter Randall, 49, is advertising the organ on the eBay online auction site and hopes to earn 100,000 pounds (173,000 dollars, 143,000 euros) from the sale, London newspaper The Sun reported on Thursday.

An advert on the company's British site had to be pulled because it is illegal to sell organs in Britain but Randall is hoping visitors to eBay's US and Asian sites will bid for the kidney.

Randall's daughter, Alice, suffers from cerebral palsy -- a term to describe the loss of brain functions used to control body movement and posture.

Randall and his wife, who live near London, want their daughter to receive treatment pioneered in Hungary that would cost them 50,000 pounds a year.

They hope two years of treatment in Britain will enable their daughter to walk normally.

"I can survive with one kidney," Randall told The Sun.

"It is a small price to pay to see my little girl take her first steps."

EBay is no stranger to unusual advertisements. In October, a visitor to the site paid 225 pounds for a bucket of water to help British charity Oxfam drill wells in war-torn southern Sudan.
