But that was never a reason for immediate action. The war was blundered into because of an artificial timetable of political deceit. Junior could have tried to claim that the war was justified because Saddam polluted the ground with all the weapons he destroyed, and there is some element of validity there too, but such reasoning would not have required the immediate and unilateral attack. Only the lies about immediate threats could unleash the dogs of war in time to subvert the elections again.
