Taiwan will only move if it thinks it has US backing. I suspect with the rumblings we are hearing that there a few fools in the Administration who are providing some support for this, and they should be rooted out and fired before this gets out of hand. China will not ask the price -- China will act and it will take whatever losses are required. It would definitely unite China in a way that no other issue could.
