Some things have to be learned the hard way.

Not so long ago, anyone who said that a static US occupation force in Iraq would become a magnet for terrorists was immediately dismissed as an inveterate pessimist.

Now, anyone who doesn't think that the terrorists are on the run and that a democratic, pro-western government will take and retain power soon is treated the same way.

We'll see.
