I don't know that I said anything about speculative, or 'hot money'. I can't speak to the motivations and mores of the euro interests Don Coxe met with. I would think 401k type of funds would be ideal for long time horizon 'investments'.

Those charged with deploying these funds appear unable to move from a 'passive' to an 'active' mode of investing by the rules of the game. Imagine Peter Lynch telling you he put some of your IRA funds into a copper mine in Papua New Guinea. Yet active investing has greater returns, and a greater ability to frame the future.

Rather, money managers must rely on venture capital funding, then bringing to market, appropriate vehicles . Private Equity is all about anticipating, or creating, the 'Next Big Story', so they'll have an exit point 3-5 years hence. So it comes down to which "Stories" dominate the mindspace of the masses, which can be influenced by media.

So we are left to monitor what 'stories' we are being told, to assess the probable truth and significance, and underlying motivations of the tale tellers, and perhaps more importantly, what stories we are not being told.

For example, what is on the news? China? Heard anything about Argentina lately? Think there might be any opportunity for passive or active investment in Argentina?
