The terminology of 'rights' is poorly defined and politically loaded. That is why I would like to take a step back and look at 'rights' as something that is creatively endowed, not simply legislated and then granted. When we started this, the terminology was 'they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights'. Of course we did not extend this beyond consideration of what was right for human beings. But if the Creator established rights that are unalienable for human beings it makes sense that in our advanced societal state we should revisit that concept before arbitrarily assuming such things as anthropomorphic interests of animals.
