>>It's funny watching Yiwu developing, already, a sense of innate superiority. <<
Thank you, Maurice, I am flattered to see my name mentioned (a couple of times) in your post<g>
Now, do I have a sense of superiority? Yes, I am proud of my Chinese heritage, but I would not call it a sense of superiority. Sorry if you feel this way. But I think all people should be proud of their own heritage.
As for whether China can be called "rich", maybe one day, but this day still is far away. China, as a country, is getting stronger every day, but in terms of per capita income, it would take decades, if not a century, for China to play a catching-up game. And will China behave the same way as it is now, or as it was 15 years ago? I think it will, but I know many Westerners do not believe it. So I guess they will know it when they see it.
And as for Taiwan issue, it is China's domestic affair. Taiwan may have a dozen reasons why they want to be independent, China has and need only one reason to oppose that, and that is: Taiwan is a piece of China, and no one can take it away!
And no matter what the US, Japan, or Russia, or any nation on this planet, think or say on Taiwan issue, China will do what it thinks necessary to keep China INTACT. So there is NO point to argue here. And if you think this is "a sense of superiority", then be it. I have been saying this since day one I started posting here on SI. |
