Hello Zhang,
"All people should be proud of their own heritage." There are some difficulties here. I once knew a person who's four grandparents came from four different countries. It wouldn't be easy for her to know in any detail what her heritage was. Also everyone's heritage includes great people and villains. Doubtless you are not proud to be the descendant of Chin Shir Huang who burnt all the books and murdered so many people. On the other hand you probably recall with pleasure your magnificent Tang dynasty ancestor, Du Fu, whose immortal poems have so much deep feeling. There are practical aspects here. Japanese people don't like to be reminded of the terrible crimes committed in China by their soldiers. "I wasn't even alive then", they say truly. Yet they lack the courage to denounce those ancestors, perhaps because they are supposed to be proud of them??!
It's tricky. I think it's best to be proud of one's own efforts to do good in this world.
