You really can't blame Republicans for the mess, Mark. Seriously, they are indeed culpable, but so are Democrats. Tax burdens and housing costs have gone up steadily, sometime precipitously, such that the proportion of income required for basic living is so much larger than what can be saved, many families lose hope. They work 2 or 3 jobs and still fail to save. The problem began long ago, and both Dems and Gops are responsible.

But so are families. Rather than simply refuse to work 3 jobs and severely cut spending, they accept the burden of maintaining their extant standard of living even if it means having to abandon their children. Were I in their shoes, I'd literally live in a tent before doing that. Were more families willing to go to such lengths, prices would plummet, people would have a lot less stress, children would be happier and family cohesion would increase significantly. We really don't need huge houses and three cars (I should talk)...
