No, Christine. God is both an external reality and an internal reality. The Grace of God is the essence and power of God that comes within us to produce a verifable change. Somehow, God has ordained
that man can only receive His Grace and Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus. When Jesus came to the earth and put on humanity, He was deadly serious about His expedition and work. He came to suffer and die for the sins of mankind so that we could become the sons of God. He became what we are that we might become what He is. From created fallen humanity to the divine sons of God.

The answer to the second part of your question is yes. Jesus did fill the emptiness and dispel the despair in my life. I did not, however, fully understand the depths of my despair nor my utter emptiness before I became a Christian. Before becoming a Christian you live a one-dimensional existence.

"In Jesus is life and the life is the light of men."
Jesus is the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but through HIM.
