The Grass may be Green, but the Roots are institutional....

Mephisto,

Re: I imagine grassroots Democrats or party insiders will go to Boston.

I'm delighted that you are so far along in the planning stages. My own experience here in Deschutes County is somewhat discouraging from a grassroots perspective. Last fall, I did quite a bit of campaigning for the Democrats. The county party chairwoman when I started is a terrific progressive. However, over the course of last winter, she was so harassed by DLC type closet Republicans that she gave up the position and her nemesis took over the country apparatus. I think the new gal finds Joe Lieberman too liberal. I kid you not. Well, maybe a little. But at any rate, my grassroots enthusiasm was resoundingly discouraged by the treachery and in-fighting that yielded this county's top party positions to people I barely recognize as Democrats. I'm not encouraged about my chances to make it to Boston. I was, however, encouraged about the Washington State process by the attorney I spoke with at the Dean Meet Up last Wednesday evening. :)
