>>MR. ROACH China for all practical purposes has an infinite supply of labor: 400 million in its urban population and another 900 million in the rural area. The average wage of a Chinese worker is still 2.5 to 3 percent of the counterpart in the developed world. Those are disparities that will be around for a long time.<<

It seem have some problems with Mr. Roach comment. China now altogether has 1.3 Billion people. You cannot say every single of them are in the labor force.

As for "The average wage of a Chinese worker is still 2.5 to 3 percent of the counterpart in the developed world," this is true for the most part of China, but in big cities, especially coastal cities, the labor cost is rising quit rapidly. Most of my friends in Beijing now earn bet. 30-50% of what I earn in the US, but they all have a decent apartment of their own (no more rent or mortage), and their payroll tax is only bet. 10-12%.
