now why in the world would Bush win the same states he won in 2000. In 2000, with a strong economy and strong US treasury balance sheet, Bush won as a moderate.

In 2004 he might be lucky to pick up the south on a gay marriage platform. Maybe. Candidates can't win with 42% disapproval ratings. It means almost half the country hates the guy. Not a winning strategy.
