Un-American Spirit: George Bush's Disinformation Agent on SI?

Re: Deanies are trying to form their own alternate Dem party.

That's a silly thing to suggest. Without anything whatsoever to back up your bluster, why should we believe a word you say?

Here's another reason why "we can't believe a word you say"...

Weeks ago, you told the thread that 37% of the votes for the Presidential nominee at the Democratic National Convention were Super-delagates and that they would oppose any Dean effort to become the candidate.

I was stunned by that 37% figure, so I did some research. Here's the calculation I found:

SUPERDELEGATES:

The breakdown of the delegate votes is as follows:
· 3062 Base delegate votes (2279 district delegate votes and 783 at-large delegate votes)
· 458 Pledged PLEOs (meaning a total of 3520 delegate votes to be determined by either a primary or a caucus/convention system in each state or other jurisdiction)
· 797 Unpledged delegate votes (715 Unpledged PLEOs and 82 Unpledged "add-on"s)
· TOTAL: 4317 delegate votes.
· Needed to win Presidential Nomination: 2,159 (http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P04/ )

**

458 + 797/4338 = 29% of delegates are so-called "Super-delegates".

**

Terminology:
· PLEOs = Party Leaders and Elected Officials.
· PLEOs + add-ons = Superdelegates.
· District + at-large delegates = Base delegates.
· Base delegates + Pledged PLEOs are the only delegates chosen through a Democratic presidential Primary or Caucus/Convention procedure and, thus, allocated to presidential contenders.
· All Unpledged delegates (Unpledged PLEOs + add-ons) are automatically uncommitted and are held aside rather than allocated to presidential contenders through a Primary or Caucus/Convention.

So, Mr. Spirit, who are we going to believe? You, or our own eyes?
