These people are not "imported" as you put it - they come here voluntarily, for the same reason that immigrants have always come here - for a shot at The American Dream. One of the most interesting economic outcomes of this flood of immigrants is that, while many of them begin their working lives here as "cheap" labor, they are not required to remain so. There is a great degree of social and economic mobility in the USA, and the history of US immigration is of successive waves of immigrants becoming solidly integrated in the US middle class over one or two generations. I have made this journey myself, and I regard it as a wonderful opportunity and privilege.
