Bush's visit to Baghdad was MUCH MORE than a publicity stunt. I have conjectured if this was a publicity stunt to increase poll rating of the President or even if this trip had really happened.

I re-read nytimes.com

Bush's View of Future of Iraq: `Seize the Moment, Rebuild'

It is looking like that the Iraqis demand a real proof the US was not to pull out leaving to the dogs all the Iraqis that trusted they would re-build.

The Iraqis on the side of the coalition and who legitimately want their country rebuild, came to the Americans and said

Iraqi Governing Council: "Wait a moment, you guys wan to pull out and leave us here with a working government and all the work to pacify this country?"

Americans: "Well, not exactly but it come some time you guys have to take over"

Governing Council: "We can do that, but can't be done in six months, and we would need a lot of power in our hands to keep things under control. And we don't feel the Us would like a country with that amount of teeth. Do you?

Americans: We don't have the level of authority in this country to decide on those issues.

Governing Council: "Who does?"

Americans: "The Commander in Chief."

Governing Council: Here is the deal. If we hear from your Commander in Chief, himself that he stands by us, we are still in. If not, we are out of this deal and then we start solving this question by ourselves now instead of waiting until next summer after you are gone.

Americans got the message that the Iraqis will band together to get their own government without the US and brought Bush to Iraq to ascertain the Iraqis that they won't be left alone:

The message of Bush was for the Iraqi governing Council.

Why Hillary's visit fits into this picture you'd ask?

Well, the Governing Council then asked: How about if the other guy wins in 2004? In case the democrats win, they are going to inherit this hot potato in their hands and they have to deal with it. They would leave us in the dumps!!

Hence Hillary Clinton had to follow in the footsteps of Bush to appease the Iraqi Governing Council.
