COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF?

Re: I don't think that the "resident in the White House" is the main variable in the US equation....

Near the start of his term, Bill Clinton decided that, doggonit, he was a civilian head of a civilian government and that he ought to be able to drop the kiss-ass salute that Ronald Reagan instituted whenever he boarded Marine One, the helicopter that whisks the President from the White House Rose Garden to Andrews AFB or Camp David.

So, Clinton skipped the obeisance to the military for a couple of (rebellious) times upon boarding Marine One.

Soon word filtered back to Clinton that he was out of line. And that he must salute the Marine Guard upon boarding and exiting any flight on the government's helicopter.

Clinton meekly complied.

Now, what's this about leadership in America? <gg>
